Banana Savior: The X Sense
A genetic engineering team of undergraduate students designed a rapid test for a new disease, Banana Xanthomonas Wilt (BXW). The novel design is intended to help farmers and quarantine departments in Africa realise early detection of the disease and help stop it from spreading. The team was awarded a Gold medal at the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) 2019 Giant Jamboree, held in Boston, USA.

STEAM for Next Generation and Agrobiotechnology
In 2020, to promote STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics), in conjunction with the Big Education Platform, the State Key Laboratory (SKL) of Agrobiotechnology launched a STEAM Education Activity Program, called ‘STEAM @ Soybean’ in February. The program will last for three years and is expected to benefit 900 to 1,000 students in 30 to 40 local secondary schools.
Summer Research Placement Programme 2019 was held to forge closer relationships and strengthen research collaboration with the ‘STEAM @ Soybean’ program’s partner SKL, at China Agricultural University, and Northwest A&F University.
