Support for the Maternal Workforce
The University set up a Task Force on Women and Family-friendly Policies in May 2014 to promote a work environment that is responsive to the needs of women and others with family responsibilities. It provides lactation breaks, maternity leave, paternity leave and adoption leave for CUHK employees. Nursing rooms on campus and guidelines on facilities for lactating appointees are in place. CUHK has been recognized by UNICEF for promoting a breastfeeding-friendly workplace.

Gender Academies
CUHK offers a Gender Studies programme with a global perspective and Asia focus, and field study course to broaden undergraduates’ exposure to international gender-related issues and topics. The aim of the University’s Gender Research Centre is to conduct seminars and research on gender studies. The Centre for Research and Promotion of Women’s Health is responsible for improving the health of women of all ages by conducting various research programmes of local relevance.
CUHK Initiatives

Women-led Caterer
The Women’s Cooperative Store was founded in 2001 by the Hong Kong Women Workers’ Association to help a group of jobless women. Unlike traditional businesses, the women workers, who come from grassroots families, manage the store collectively. The store sells various products, such as remanufactured soaps made by underprivileged communities.

The task force was set up in 2014 to promote a work environment that is responsive to the needs of women and other staff with family responsibilities.
