Curriculum
Teaching
Alongside a consortium of universities from four continents, CUHK joined Future17, an initiative that brings together students from diverse cultural backgrounds and educational settings to address global challenges through the implementation of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants first received training on SDGs and design thinking and were then randomly assigned to international, interdisciplinary, and multicultural teams. Each team was tasked with designing innovative sustainability solutions. Through the programme, students have studied complex real-world issues and gained experience in collaborating with overseas peers to develop practical solutions.
AI education outreach in secondary schools
Since 2019, CUHK has been working in partnership with secondary schools across Hong Kong on the CUHK Jockey Club AI for the Future Project. The project aims to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) literacy into the school curriculum, equipping students with the AI skills necessary for the future workplace. In November 2022, CUHK officially launched phase two of the project, which aims to introduce AI education to 238 local secondary schools and offer mainstream AI education across the curriculum. By nurturing young talent in the field of innovation, the project will contribute to the advancement of Hong Kong as a smart city.
Designing and building a rural children’s library
Professor Peter W. Ferretto’s team and Professor Cai Ling from the School of Architecture and local carpenters designed and built the Pingtan Book House, a rural children’s library, in Pingtan village, Hunan Province. The Book House aims to cultivate children’s interest in reading by incorporating playful elements, an approach rarely seen in rural village libraries in China. The Pingtan Book House also adopts the traditional Dong carpentry details, reconnecting users with the Dong’s history and culture.
