SDG 13 Climate Action
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
|
Climate change is a crisis that affects us all, and CUHK does its best to mitigate the impact of climate change. CUHK was the first local university to pledge to achieve carbon neutrality by 2038. We actively organize education programmes for the general public to promote the importance of sustainability. CUHK also seeks to become an agent of positive change in knowledge, attitudes and behaviour in relation to climate change both in Hong Kong and elsewhere. |
SDG 14 Life Below Water
Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development
|
Oceans, rivers and marine resources are crucial components of the ecosystem. CUHK strives to protect aquatic ecosystems by establishing policies to balance the use of ocean resources with the demands of conservation. We also try to promote the importance of marine conservation by providing educational programmes to secondary school students and the general public. |
SDG 15 Life on Land
Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
|
Urbanization has proved to be both a blessing and a curse. It has brought economic development to some areas and provided income to workers. However, it has also degraded the natural environment and resulted in a loss of biodiversity. CUHK does not turn a blind eye to these environmental problems, but actively protects species on campus and organizes programmes to foster a sustainable city growth. |
SDG 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels
|
CUHK is committed to building a fair, diverse and inclusive university community for all, where the perspectives of each and every member are respected and can be robustly debated. In order to achieve this goal, the University has established a set of policies and initiatives. We also provide educational outreach activities to policymakers and lawmakers so as to promote peace, justice, and strong institutions in Hong Kong and beyond. |
SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals
Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development
|
Sustainability challenges are complex and not easy to tackle. However, if we work in synergy, we achieve better results than if we worked alone. CUHK works with other local universities, NGOs and the government to carry out initiatives which contribute to the achievement of the SDGs. We also collaborate with international organizations and share CUHK’s experience in sustainability with the global community. |
